PRM lifts for Spanish airports

Comment on this article

During 2017 and the first couple of months of 2018, over 80 new ambulifts (including two A380 compatible models) were delivered to a number of Spanish airports by Air-Rail.

The deliveries have come in the wake of the AENA public tenders, which were won by service providers such as Acciona, Ferrovial, Clece, EFS-Adelte and Interserve. Part of the tenders included provision for the removal of older PRM lifts in line with AENA's environmental policies.

The new equipment will operate for the next six years in the 20 largest airports within the Spanish network, which account for more than 96% of the country's air traffic and which served more than 240m passengers in 2017, of which nearly 1.5m were of PRM status. Additionally, some 60 PRM adapted vans where also delivered under the service agreement. Interesting to note, over 30 items of equipment were provided under rental agreements, which included maintenance, offering an advantage in financial and cost terms for the companies providing the service.
