Menzies Aviation has contracted Gatwick-based Avtura to use its pioneering D-ICE de-icing management solution across all its European de-icing operations.

The system will be deployed across 23 Menzies stations from the beginning of the 2019/2020 winter season and will be installed in a total of 100 de-icing rigs. The new technology is expected to boost de-icing operational efficiency, benefitting airline on-time performance in adverse weather conditions.

Under the terms of the contract Menzies Aviation will be deploying two key elements of the D-ICE System. These are the D-ICE Rig Manager, a mobile solution for rig crew, central administration and operations to electronically manage the request, delivery and completion of all de-icing operations in real-time. It will also deploy the D-ICE Fluid Manager which is a mobile solution that electronically monitors, manages and re-orders de-icing fluid stock levels at each airport location, giving supervisors at a local, regional and group level real-time decision-making capabilities around de-icing fluid provision and delivery.

The contract means that Menzies becomes the biggest single user of the system in Europe.
