Hactl's value-added logistics arm, Hacis, and Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (CKS) have entered into a strategic partnership covering the development of joint logistics activity throughout the western part of the Pearl River Delta (PRD).

The first project will be the opening of a new inland cargo depot in Zhuhai Free Trade Zone, in collaboration with CKS subsidiary Civet Logistics, which operates its own port facility in Zhuhai Free Trade Zone. This brings the number of Hacis depots in southern mainland China to nine.

The depot will cover the Macao and Zhuhai conurbations and will enable Hacis to realise its long-standing ambition to develop its SuperLink China Direct road feeder service network and establish a strong local presence in the Zhuhai area, to take advantage of the imminent opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

All Hacis depots are linked with Hong Kong International Airport via scheduled express road feeders. The opening of the new bridge will slash trucking times between the western PRD and HKIA by around two thirds.

The western PRD is home to many electronics manufacturers and technology companies, many of whom are currently heavy users of ocean freight. Hacis and CKS hope to convert much of this traffic to airfreight, once the bridge is open and a faster connection to Hon Kong airport is available.

“Hacis has a long-term plan to expand its SLCD services to the western PRD, further enhancing HKIA as a regional air cargo hub and transshipment centre. This new depot will enable us to fully support airlines wishing to extend their networks to the cities in the western PRD,” said Hacis Managing Director Vivien Lau. Lau added that Civet’s location next to the bridge and its experience in running port facilities in Zhuhai make it an ideal partner.

Roger Cheng, Director & Vice General Manager of CKS, commented: “The partnership with Hacis will further promote multi-modal logistics in the western PRD, and assist in the development of the Greater Bay Area, in line with Central Government Policy. We are also exploring mutual co-operation in other ports such as Doumen.”
