Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) has acquired a fleet of new baggage tow tractors.

The German-made tractors can convey up to 45 tonnes of baggage and cargo on a level ground and up to 40 tonnes on wet or hilly surfaces. They are also the best of their kind amongst the Nigerian GSE fleet, according to the handler.

The tugs are equipped with a tier 4-compliant engine, which will significantly reduce emissions of particulate matter and Nitrogen to a minimal level, in accordance with requirements of the European Environmental agency policy.

In addition to SAHCO’s ongoing investment in modern GSE, the handler’s team of engineers has also manufactured various equipment with locally sourced materials, including fuel bowsers, toilet bowsers and baggage carts to ensure speedy service delivery and boost client satisfaction.

SAHCO’s efforts have been recognized by various regulatory bodies around the world. It was recently awarded the accolade of ‘Best Ground Handling Company in West Africa’ at the 5th Accraweizo 2019, and was awarded ‘Most Innovative Ground Handling Company in Nigeria’ by The League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC). It also achieved a Service Provider Recognition award in the Indian Sub-Continent and Africa from Etihad Airways, while its Lagos Station was awarded the best in on-time performance and excellent service delivery.

The Bureau of Public Enterprises’ Director, Development Institutions & Natural Resources, Chigbo Anichebe, expressed the agency’s satisfaction over SAHCO’s performance during a recent routine post-privatisation assessment tour in Lagos, observing that SAHCO was exceeding expectations nine years after it was privatised.
