Schiphol Food & Beverage operator HMSHost International and food delivery company Deliveroo have launched a pilot programme which will enable passengers flying from Pier E to order food and drinks to the gate via their mobile phones.

Passengers can order meals via the Deliveroo app or website. Food will be prepared at Kebaya and at The Market, The Grill and The Oven located in the Street Food Market, which will then be delivered by one of Schiphol’s major F&B partners, HMSHost International. Orders are delivered by scooter to the gate or the Mercure Hotel, located in Departure Lounge 3, within 15 minutes for a delivery charge of €2.50.

During the trial period, which runs until the end of March, food service is available every day between 07:00 and 20:30. The trial will be followed by an evaluation and, if deemed successful, it will be extended to Pier D in March.

“With delivery to the gate now available at Schiphol airport from a selection of HMSHost International restaurants, passengers no longer need to miss breakfast, lunch or dinner even when they may only have minutes to spare before boarding,” said Mathieu de Lophem, General Manager Deliveroo Benelux.

The airport’s Director of Consumer Products & Services, Tanja Dik, also commented: “In addition to the extra service for passengers, there’s also a practical side to this initiative. For years Schiphol has been welcoming more and more passengers. Last year over 68m people from hundreds of countries came through the airport. The fact is that space for additional retail and catering outlets in the terminal and the piers is limited. That’s why we come up with innovative concepts like this and keep a close eye on trends in technological and digital developments.”

Schiphol is the first airport in Europe to experiment with delivery of this kind, to individual passengers.
