Ramp Safety Awards

Ground Handling International has been running its annual Ramp Safety Awards since 2003. The rationale behind the Awards is very straightforward: the magazine's aim has been not only to illustrate to the reader the realities of working on the ramp today but also to highlight good practice and remind ourselves that the task of the turnaround can never be taken for granted.

Every year we collect entries from around the world which can detail a range of safety subjects. These include specific educational or training initiatives that have been implemented by a handler; examples of quick thinking on the ramp in response to an emergency; or staff going the extra mile in their routines when under pressure. There is an additional award, one for GSE innovation, which highlights modifications to GSE that have been carried out by handlers to make the equipment safer or more reliable. Once the shortlisted candidates are selected, details of the entries are posted online and all readers are contacted so that they can vote. The awards themselves are presented at the magazine’s main conference at the end of the year.

All that is required is a brief paragraph with details of station and personnel. Entries can be sent at any time to the Editor: alwyn@groundhandling.com
